This “next steps” inkle band weaving workshop will introduce you to two pick-up techniques: Baltic style and horizontal stripe pick-up, on one warp. During the class, tips will be given for weaving clear and crisp motifs, how to manage float lengths, maintaining band width and more.
You will learn to read your cards and master the fundamentals of tablet weaving in a fun and comprehensible way. The class begins with a pre-made “rainbow warp” designed to reveal the mechanics of tablet weaving. Each day features a new band, and a progression of exercises that build understanding.
On simple frame looms or small harness looms, you will explore a variety of tapestry techniques that can be used in almost any weaving project and on any loom. You will start with Wedge Weave Tapestry and then begin adding eccentric, inlay, and textured techniques.
This workshop is your chance to explore the textiles that were woven on treadle looms before and after the Industrial Revolution in New England and the Mid-Atlantic states. You will go from “simple” two shaft work through the much-needed bagging and on to the more complex works.
This workshop provides guidelines for designing, planning, weaving, and finishing cloth appropriate for different garments, with hands-on weaving of potential clothing samples in a modified round-robin format. You will examine samples and discuss how to use or revise them for different clothing.
Huck Lace and Bronson Lace are both beautiful block and unit weave lace structures that have intrigued weavers for ages. Both lace structures have a lot of design potential for creating beautiful cloth. You will examine the differences between the two laces by studying each.
This class is intended to introduce you to how to create a pattern, warp a loom, and weave with fine threads, no larger than 20/2 cotton. You will decide on a technique suited to fine fibers, then provide a proposed draft to be threaded onto the loom.
