114 Making Friends with Fine Fibers

This class is intended to introduce you to how to create a pattern, warp a loom, and weave with fine threads, no larger than 20/2 cotton. The workshop is best for intermediate and experienced weavers. It will provide you a chance to experiement with fine threads. You will decide on a technique suited to fine fibers, then provide a proposed draft to be threaded onto the loom. The instructor will provide pre-workshop assistance for this process. Once the draft is chosen, you will need to bring sufficient fine warp yarn for the project.

Hints and techniques for measuring a large number of warp threads and in getting the warp onto the loom and ready to weave without tears and tangles will be shared. With your choice of fiber, colors, and structure you will prepare, thread and beam a warp with fine fibers. Weaving techniques using fine threads will be discussed and numerous examples will be provided in class for inspiration. This class is NOT suitable for rigid heddle looms.
