Adding a quarter inch of plain weave at each selvage makes weaving this a lot easier. you don’t have to worry about floating selvages and oddness at the edge because of floats. Same goes for the plain weave at the ends. It’s much easier to hem a plain weave towel on the sewing machine. I have also found that adding some fray check in addition to zig-zagging the raw edge of the finished towel, makes it easier to hem the corners. Also, do not attempt to machine hem this towel unless your sewing machine has a heavy duty motor.

The treadling for this came from the class on huckaback that I took from Laurie Duxbury at MAFA's 2023 conference. I believe she used materials from Davison's A HANDWEAVER'S PATTERN BOOK among others. The huck pattern I used is a variation of spot huck, comprised of warp float in unit A and weft floats in unit B that alternate with plain weave. I added color and weave by alternating the color of the warp threads. The weft is a single color. Finally, I added a plain weave selvage to keep things neat and tidy and a little more than an inch of plain weave at each hem to make it easier to hem the towel.
