201 Beginning Spinning, Wheel and Electric Spinner Friendly
This workshop is designed for beginners who want a practical, encouraging start to spinning on a wheel or electric spinner. Alanna will guide you step-by-step through setup, basic mechanics, and the foundational drafting skills that make spinning feel understandable and repeatable.
You will sample a variety of fiber types and preparations to learn what you enjoy spinning and why different fibers behave the way they do. Throughout the workshop, you will receive supportive coaching and clear troubleshooting so common problems feel solvable instead of frustrating.
By the end, you will leave with yarn on your bobbins, a simple plan for continued practice, and the confidence to keep spinning at home. Plying and basic finishing will be included.

Spinning wheel/e-spinner (check to make sure it’s in working condition)
Extension cord (for e-spinners)
Spinning wheel oil
Lazy kate (if learning to ply is desired, tensioned is preferred)
1 empty bobbins with leader (3 bobbins, if learning how to ply is desired)
Empty zip lock bags and marker for labeling fibers
Homework
Ensure your wheel or spinner is in good working order with an experienced spinner prior to the start of the workshop

Instructor Bio
Alanna Wilcox is a fiber artist, educator, Master Spinner, and color specialist with acid dyes. She loves empowering fiber enthusiasts by helping them overcome creative challenges, learn new skills, and achieve their fiber related goals through in person instruction, online workshops, and books. Alanna is constantly making things, especially projects that have to do with color and fiber to express her creativity. Working with fiber is something that she lives and breathes, sometimes literally.
