504 The Hat Knitter’s Exploration of Color and Fiber
This is for the knitter who wants to dive deeper into hat construction, learn creative color-work, and examine how different fibers can elevate unique projects. You will learn multiple cast-on techniques, how to tension yarn, how to hold the yarn in the right and left hand, handle floats, and explore knitting hats from personalized ideas. You will explore how to make patterns pop and numerous elements of hat construction and decreasing methods. You will learn from Emolyn’s experience, her process of designing, how to use inspiration to guide pattern choice and sizing, as well as compare attributes of fiber and yarn. You will have a chance to make a two-ply sample of yarn on a spinning wheel.

Materials Fee
$35 covers all kinds of colors of yarn and fiber to try for spinning. It will be optional for students to purchase knitting needles.

Emolyn Liden discovered her love of craft at a young age observing artists in her community. She learned about raising sheep and natural fiber, which led to spinning and natural dyeing. Through her business, The Roving Knitter, she designs knitwear inspired by texture and color and teaches fiber art to people of all ages. Emolyn is a community-minded teaching artist who blends her passions to empower others to discover confidence, creativity, connection and understanding.
