2019 Sock Knitting Machine Mini-workshops

PLEASE NOTE THIS POST IS ABOUT CLASSES AT THE 2019 CONFERENCE. WE ARE NOT OFFERING CSM CLASSES IN 2023.

Sock Machine Drivers’ Ed: Learn to knit on antique and modern circular sock knitting machines. These short workshops are for absolute beginners and taught by Milissa Ellison Dewey of Bobbin Boy and Mountain Mama Weavers.

Participants will make a knitted sampler and learn about the origins and history of the circular sock knitting machines in Millisa’s collection. In addition, each person will graduate with Sock Machine Learner’s Permit, take home a knitted sampler and a casting-on basket, a latching-up tool useful for all knitting, and a hand-turned toe jack. (This jack is like a darning egg on steroids, is used for finishing both hand- and machine-knitted socks, and sells for $50 by itself.)

In addition, class members will receive a link to handouts ranging from a list of basic supplies and suppliers; a bibliography of reference and teaching resources; and an overview of what can be made at each stage of learning.

  • The workshop fee of $125 is all inclusive. No equipment is required.
  • Registration is required, as class size is limited.
