Melanie Bailey Cox

Melanie Bailey Cox is a spinner and weaver with a passion for textile arts. Melanie is a member of the Burlington Handweavers and Spinning Guild and through the guild she became exposed to and involved with handweaving and hand spinning. With her engineering background she has always had a love for processes and enjoys understanding how to make things.

Textile art, for me, is an immensely gratifying journey. I revel in the process of transforming raw materials, planning their evolution, and experimenting with various combinations until I discover the perfect formula for my envisioned project.

For the past five years, I’ve had the joyous privilege of guiding and inspiring new spinners on their journey into the world of spinning. My teaching philosophy centers around creating an inclusive and supportive environment, ensuring that participants of all levels feel not only welcomed but empowered to explore the art of spinning.

My favourite moment of any class is witnessing the magical “ah ha” moments when the intricate dance between spinner and wheel clicks for the first time. I also enjoy tinkering and helping individuals (re)connect with spinning wheels they may have fallen out of love with.
