(503) Get Swept Away with Handmade Brooms
Part household essential, part woven sculpture, brooms have a rich history and are fun to make. Come learn to weave classic American sorghum hand brooms and branch out into experimental shapes and bindings. We will learn to prepare materials, wind the brooms with cord, and finish with a neat trim. Along the way, we will troubleshoot tension and winding issues.
If time permits, we will dip into natural dyeing with a demonstration of techniques and considerations for dyeing raw fiber. Some natural dyeing experience would be helpful but is not required.
Expect to leave the workshop with an armload of beautiful sweepers!
