Micro-Grant Program Guidelines
In response to the challenges of the pandemic, MAFA is awarding Micro-Grants of up to $500 for development and maintenance of member guilds. 501(c)(3) status is not required.
Successful applicants will propose an idea that promotes growth and development, or enhances activities and education for the guild. Grants could fund the following, but are not limited to this list:
- Equipment and materials to promote current and future education in the fiber arts
- Technology to allow group or groups to connect more effectively
- Virtual and in-person speakers to engage groups in learning and discussion
Each proposal should incorporate a clear understanding of how the funds will enhance the guild. The grants are not intended to fund individual work, research or study. A guild will only be permitted to apply for one of these Micro-Grants. Awarded grants will be posted on the MAFA website as a means of highlighting development in the fiber community.
Guilds that receive a Micro-Grant in any given year may still apply for a full guild grant for future years. For example, you may apply later in 2024 for a 2025 grant.
Application Process:
MAFA will accept proposals on a rolling basis throughout the year. To apply, submit the online MAFA Micro-Grant Application. Please include a budget and any supporting documents. You may save your work on this form and return to it later. Questions on this process may be sent to grants@mafafiber.org. All submissions will be acknowledged.

A downloadable Micro-Grant Application Preview is available.
The Grants Committee will review the proposals every three months. The committee will then select one or more of the awards to recommend to the MAFA Board for approval. If approved, the full amount of the award will be sent to the contact person on the application. All attempts will be made to have the decision by the middle of the month.
Funds must be used within 12 months of receipt but exceptions will be considered by the committee.
Note: Members of the Grant Committee do not participate in reviewing or approval of applications and reports from any guild to which they belong.
Final Report: While no formal final report is required, the recipient should send an acknowledgement of receiving the funds and a follow-up communication of how the funds impacted their group and the advancement of the fiber arts. Receipts and photos are encouraged where appropriate!
