(502) Suminagashi Marbling and Asian-style Books

Students in this class will create their own marbled paper by exploring the art of Japanese marbling (Suminagashi). This technique involves floating inks on water and then transferring the marbled design to paper. Our decorated papers will then become wonderful books by exploring the traditions of stab binding and origami. Suminagshi papers can also be used to create stationery and cards, gift wrapping paper, and be used in collage and mixed media work.

This workshop will cover:
Day 1 – explore marbling and various techniques
Day 2 – create stab bound books and variations
Day 3 – create origami books
