What is MAFA Virtual?
We host virtual programs throughout the year, between our biennial in-person conferences, though we do take the summer and December off.
Have questions? Email virtual@mafafiber.org.
- Find all upcoming MAFA Virtual classes and lectures in weaving, spinning, dyeing, felting, surface design, and other fiber-related practices on Lessonface at www.lessonface.com/mafa.
- Lessonface, offers a user-friendly interface for registration, and uses Zoom to host our classes and events.
- Programs include free and paid lectures, classes, and workshops, which can range from talks with Q&A, to 2 or 3-hour demos or hands-on classes, up to multiple class sessions spread out over days or weeks for more complex topics.
- Classes and lectures will be recorded and available to registered students, usually for 30 days after class concludes.
- We offer free Movie Nights on second Wednesdays. Find details and links to previous videos on the Movie Nights tab.
- *NEW* MAFA book group started in early-2024 and will meet quarterly to discuss fiber-related books. Sign up for the book group email list HERE to get notifications of dates and upcoming books. Questions about book group? Email events@mafafiber.org.
- You do not need to be a member of MAFA to participate in MAFA Virtual events, but if you wish to support us by joining, see the Join section.
About the Classes
- Click the class links on Lessonface to see complete details for each class, and feel free to contact us with any questions at virtual@mafafiber.org.
- All class times will be in Eastern time.
- All classes and lectures are online. Students can connect to their classes using any tablet or computer with reliable internet that supports Zoom meetings.
- Most of the classes will be recorded (unless we have unexpected technical difficulties, or if an instructor requests we do not record). Recordings will be available for access by enrolled students, usually for 30 days following the live class.
Online Registration Information
- All MAFA Virtual registrations will be online at Lessonface.com/MAFA.
- Payment will be made at the time of registration using credit card or PayPal.
- Registration for each class will usually remain open until the night before a class is scheduled (unless the instructor requests an earlier cutoff), or the class is filled, whichever comes first.
- If a class is full, you may join the waitlist. Please do join the waitlist, since that lets us know if we should schedule a repeat of that class.
- To register for more than one class, click the Enroll button to add a class to the shopping cart, then return to the main MAFA page and navigate to and add your next class. Continue until all your classes are added then click the shopping cart icon at the top of the page, then checkout.
Cancellation and Limited Refund Policy
- You may cancel and request a refund by emailing support@lessonface.com with the email of the account registered, and class details.
- If you cancel at least 5 days before the class start date, 95% of your class fee will be refunded;
- Within five days of the class start date, no refunds will be issued.
- If a class must be canceled by MAFA due to unforeseen circumstances, we will notify you as soon as possible by email, and a full refund for the class will be given.
Notifications
- Email will be used to communicate class links, cancellations, changes, etc. If your email address changes, you are responsible for notifying Lessonface and MAFA of that change. MAFA WILL NOT be held responsible for incorrect email addresses.
- Remember to check your spam folder if you don’t receive a confirmation email for your class.
- Check your Lessonface Dashboard and the MAFA website for updates.
- Contact Lessonface at support@lessonface.com.
- Contact MAFA at virtual@mafafiber.org.
When and how will I get pre-class instructions and supply lists?
- Supplies, materials, and equipment will be the responsibility of the student, and that information will be posted on the class description page or emailed to students by the instructor.
- If a class has a materials kit or paid handout available, it will be purchased directly from the instructor. See the class descriptions for details.
- Handouts included in the class fee will be posted on the class Materials page in your Dashboard, or emailed to students.
- If you have questions about supplies, please message the instructor directly through Lessonface, or by email if they have provided their address.
How will I access my classes?
- You will receive an email with a Join button/link 24 hours before the class starts, and about an hour before class starts.
- OR log in to Lessonface, go to the Dashboard, and find your class in the Group Classes section. There will be a green Join button live about 30 minutes before class starts.
I have a question about a class, how do I contact the instructor?
Click Send a Message on the instructor bio page, or email MAFA at virtual@mafafiber.org and we will forward your message to the instructor.
Photo/Video Policy
All MAFA Virtual classes and events will be recorded. If you do not want your image or video to be recorded, please be sure your video is off in interactive sessions.
